I still remember the day I found out I was pregnant with you. I was in for a gallbladder scan, and they just wanted to make sure I wasn't pregnant first. I still remember waiting in the waiting area while waiting for the results. I remember vividly the nurse calling me back and telling me in the hall on the way to my room, "Well, congratulations, you're pregnant!" And my reaction of, "WHAT!?! You're joking me!" and saying that over and over. And telling daddy in a funny way when I got home. I got a card that said, Bring on the cravings, we're expecting!, and videotaped his reaction of laughter and disbelief. And now! Here you are already! I still can't believe it! It all started out (in my opinion) during Sunday school. The teacher was praying for me actually and while he prayed I got the sharpest, painful feeling in my stomach and then I started having contractions. They lasted on and off all day. That night I took a relaxing bath and painted my toes, just so they'd be sort of fresh for the big day(although I did NOT think it would be the next day!) Then the next morning I woke up with the contractions again. I was pretty uncomfortable, so I decided to try going to the chiropractor for an adjustment. They said I should call the doctor, so I did when I got home. They told me to call back when the contractions were 3-5 mins apart. I called Gma Debbie at around 11 to come get the boys, more or less b/c I thought if I layed down the contractions would go away. I put in some King of Queens on the portable DVD player, sat in my robe on the couch with my feet up and ate corn chips, but instead of getting better the contractions got worse and closer together. So, I called the doctor back and they told me to come in. I called Brent and he was in Brainerd working, so he said he'd meet me at the hopsital. I then went upstairs to email Gma Mary that we were headed in to the hopsital. As I was walking down the steps after that I heard I pop and then realized that my water had broken. Except instead of water, it was blood. I kind of kicked it up a notch then, and quickly grabbed the cameras and threw my slippers on and, with a towel between my legs, got in the van and sped away. I did about 80 for about 10 miles or so, to the town of Pequot Lakes. I realized it wasn't going to be so easy getting to the hospital fast with traffic being as it was, so I decided to stop at the courthouse/police station/library to see about getting a police escort. The courthouse was closed b/c of presidents day, and so I hobbled into the library and told the librarian I needed some help. She got on the phone with 911 and I waited outside b/c I was still bleeding everywhere. After what felt like forever and ambulance came and I did get my escort. In addition to the ambulance I was in, I had another ambulance and a police car escort me onto highway 371. I never realized that something wasn't right. Daddy, meanwhile had gone to the hospital and was trying to get ahold of me, but my cell phone had ran out of minutes. He got word I was headed to the hospital in an ambulance, and there were nurses running around like crazy he said, getting ready for my arrival. There were a LOT of nurses in the room when I arrived, and they hooked me up to the moniters right away. The doctor came and checked me and found that I was dialated to a 3. I had regular contractions for an hour and a half, and made it to a 4+. The nurse and doctor, though, were pretty concerned with me going through with a regular delivery. They told me I had had a placental abrubption, and I couldn't stop bleeding, so we decided to go ahead with an emergency C-section, to make sure you'd be safe. They hadn't even done a strep test, so they gave me the antibiotic for that anyway, and they gave me some medicine to stop my contractions. It seems like only a few minutes and they had you out. I was really frustrated b/c I couldn't see you right away. Daddy was with you as they checked you over. You were very healthy, but they said you'd gotten some of my blood in you, so you had some troubles with that. You nursed right as soon as I got in the recovery room. They gave me a blood transfusion and they next morning I woke up with a spinal headache. They eventually did a blood patch on me(which was not so fun) and it took the headache away instantly, but it was back the next morning b/c I didn't lay flat long enough. It wasn't until Monday morning that it went away. We got to go home on Thursday night and you did great on your way home. Gma Mary and I took you to the doctor for your follow-up appointment on Monday and you had already gained 8 oz! I was SO relieved b/c you had lost a pound in the hospital. You are doing great and I am so happy you are in our family!!! I am very blessed, and I thank God for you and your brothers. Your daddy and I love you very much!

This is for Callie, the story of her birth.
